ASUS warranty service

My mom has an Asus laptop that was bought from Newegg. The monitor on it stopped working properly. It lights up but you can't see anything (it will output correctly to an external monitor so I think the display itself is faulty). She called Asus and verified it's under warranty and they told her to take it to Best Buy for service.

I took it to BB today and they said they can't do warranty work unless it was purchased from Best Buy.

Why would Asus tell customers to take warranty work to Best Buy if they won't even look at it unless it was bought from BB?

Has anyone else run into this?

Maybe their records showed they shipped it to BB instead of NE in error. Just call back and explain. I've heard complaints around here about ASUS support being bad.

Agreed, that's a bit odd they would make a suggestion like that. Especially if they would have taken the time to notice that the laptop was purchased from NE and not BB. Worst case scenario, you can email/fax ASUS a copy of the invoice for the laptop as proof.
