Asus VW222U

Does anyone have any experience with the Asus VW222U? I have seen it in the store and it looks as good as the 226bw. The specs are good too and I don't think I have to worry about a panel lottery.

I was considering the 226bw but I emailed them a few weeks ago about some questions I had about the monitor. They took over a week to answer and it was a canned response that said they were too busy to answer my email but thanks for contacting them anyway. That on top of the panel lottery and the really poor support I got on a Samsung cell phone and Samsung DVD recorder makes me want to go with anyone but Samsung.

Asus also has a pretty good dead pixel warranty too. The few reviews on Newegg are pretty good so I am definitely considering it.

Ok, I will respond to my own post.

With very little real reviews to go on, I ordered the VW222U. I must say I was pleasantly surprised.

The monitor came with no dead pixels and besides turning the brightness down a bit, I have done no other color corrections. Bleeding is minimal and brightness is fairly uniform across the screen. The only con so far is that the monitor stand combination is a little bit wobbly so if you play with the menu buttons, it will shake a bit.

After all the negative talk about TN panels, I did a little research and found my 17" Viewsonic is also a TN panel. I have had no problems with with that monitor so I decided to go the 22" route. I am sure the colors would be more spot on if I did a full calibration but I am not going to spend the money to buy equipment I will use only once or twice.

I did some photo editting and found the colors to be fine for my needs. I did a little gaming and found no ghosting. I can't ask for more. If I saw a TN and a non-TN panel side by side maybe I would change my mind but for now I am completely satisfied.

This may be a monitor to consider!
