Asus Via pciexpress mboard

Looking to upgrade to pciexpress and I like asus. Anyone have any experience or knowlege whether nforce really kills the via chip in comparison? I'm thinking about this board. Any input would be appreciated.

haha poor via. This is what happeneds when they think they can keep makeing subpar boards to extend their income and a new QUALITY chipset maker comes along.

Don't be so quick to write off the VIA chipset. It is probably a good chipset--Legion Hardware gave the Soltek board a great review, and I believe them. And, that was on a engineering sample--not a production board. Here is what I think the problem really is: it is Asus.

If you do some research, for example on x-bit labs, you will find out that Asus had decided to stop sending out the board to reviewers (for what are now rather obvious reasons) and then back-peddled again and put into production after they had a "internal miscommunication" between divisions that they were never going to release the board. BS--I don't believe it for a second. Here is what I think really happened:

Asus Engineer: "board sucks, don't ship it, don't even think about it"
Asus Management: "Ok"
VIA Pressure: "Ship it, we have a strong relationship with you"
Asus Management: "well....ok"

The rest is history in the making.

If you're going to judge a chipset from one ASUS board then the nForce4 SLI sucks.

LOL! Yep. I was going to say that I've read about that very same problem with the NForce4 boards in this forum.
