Hi there, I’m currently considering these two, VG248QE and the XL2420Z.

I read the reviews for both, I know the Asus is currently recommended so I was wondering if that’s the one to get over the BenQ right now. Any other suggestions for a 24 inch gaming screen?

It will be driven by a Radeon 290.

The BenQ XL2420Z is considerably more expensive ($362 vs $260 on newegg), but I don't really see anything that justifies that. Both are 24" 144hz TN monitors with a height adjustable stand, good connectivity and 3 year warranty.

I have a BenQ XL2411T which uses the same panel as on Asus VG248QE, and I'm really happy with it. Just get the Asus.

The Benq has a much improved low persistence mode and a utility for adjusting it. Its basically an all around improvement on its predecessor (the XL2420T). The tftcentral.co.uk review goes over the gory details of the improvements made. Blurbusters also do a tool that works on the Z monitor for adjusting the strobe - http://www.blurbusters.com/benq/strobe-utility/ that is not available on the earlier models. When comparing the Asus to the Benq XL2411T the Benq is definitely the better monitor, but the Z is an improvement on it.
