Some of you guys aren't getting it. This IS a 6800GT.
It is a little confusing, because Asus put out a "vanilla" 6800 with 256mb, called the 'gamers edition'. The card I'm talking about is listed - by Asus - as a 6800GT with only 128mb of ram. And it's listed on pricewatch for $345.
Check the link above. This is a 6800GT with half the memory. I'd love to see benches on this card.
Unless you OC the memory, there will be a noticeable difference.Originally posted by: Rio Rebel
Here's a link from Asus:
V9999 - An Asus branded 6800GT with 128mb memory
Pricewatch has this card for $345. I wonder how it compares to a "real" 6800GT (or, one with 256mb)?
i think its a great card, and why wouldn't you pay a few extra dollars for a softmodded NU? its riskyOriginally posted by: Rollo

This card is basically the same as a softmodded NU. I have no idea why Asus put it out even. I would never buy one, and would actually rather have their overpriced V9999 GE than this thing.

softmodding regular 6800s anyway because if you enable bad pipelines you ruin the card. i have it
oc'd to 383/766mhz now since the cooling on this card is great. The V9999 GE is a faster card but they
are around $250au more here, and for around that price you can get a real GT so why would you?
plus since it has a GT core it has all 6 vertex shaders where the regular 6800 only has 5, so its still
better than a softmodded NU, meaning better compatibility with future games. so basically what youre getting is a souped up 6800NU for a few extra dollars at most. you're only seeing the
glass half empty, im seeing it half full 🙂
p.s oh it comes with DeusEx invisible war too, great game

You are wrong about a few things:
1. It's not a "few" extra dollars. You can get a Leadtek 6800NU from Buyxtremegear (where I got my GT) for $266. now, and I've heard about a $250 deal at Outpost lately? The cheapest this card can be had on Pricewatch is $345..
That is only $32 less than the lowest price for a normal GT, and 5 other vendors have GTs for less than $40 more.
IMO, you would have to be retarded to pay less than $40 less for this "great card" and get 128MB less of RAM that is running 300MHz slower.
2. 6800NUs have 6 vertex processors. Apparently you don't own one. I do. I've enabled all 16 pipelines, and all 6 vertex processors, as have more than half the people who've tried.
Could you please provide a link to the info that the softmodding is irreversable if it fails?
This glass isn't "half full" this glass is a money maker for Asus.
