I've just bought this card today and have been having problems with it from the start. With the drivers that came with it the machine crashed with loads of funky screen artifacts during the windows splash screen. That seems to resolved now I'm using more recent VIA and Asus drivers, but now I have a problem with Direct X
During the fullscreen tests of 2d and 3d occasionally it will render a few frames fluidly for about 1/4 of a second but then the frame rate drops back down to 1 frame per 2 seconds. Running system monitor in the background reveals that the CPU is running at just over 50% during the tests and swapfile usage is minimal - 4k, ram usage doesn't increase during the tests either.
All direct x games run, but incredibly slow - even zsnes. I'm sure it's got something to do with full screen dx modes as the dxdiag tests that ran on the windows screen were smooth and fast. OpenGL seems to run fine too - Unreal Tournament booted with it's opengl drivers but I haven't tested it for more than a minute.
AGP fast write is disabled in the bios, and the aperture is set to 64MB. The voltage is slightly below 3.3v - same with all the volategs apart from the 12v which is slightly above, but the voltage is also lower than it should be even on an almost barebones set up - no cdrom, modem, sound card or gfx card, so I don't think it's that. It's a 350PSU anyway, but not a branded one.
I'ts a V2MDMP motherboard I'm using with a Sempron 2200+ running at native 1500Mhz. 512MB of PC2700 running at 333. The mobo has an onboard S3G KM400/KN400 Unichrome, which can't be turned off manually in the BIOS, but I'm assuming it's disabled because it is no longer sharing any of the system RAM.
The CPU is running slightly hotter than usual -I think-, I never paid much attention to it but it's usually running as hot as the system temperature now it's about 5 degrees hotter - 41 celcius is the hottest I've seen it during boot up. The Ti4200 seems to be running at 50 degrees celcius.
Any ideas what's going on with direct x please?
