ASUS V8200 - ANYONE USING THIS CARD WITH A7A266?

Hi all,

I am having a world of grief trying to get this Asus v8200 deluxe Geforce3 card working with my Asus A7A266 mboard, specifically with 3d games whereupon it almost immediately either drops to the desktop or freezes requiring a reboot. The system works fine playing DVD and in 2D apps.

I am curious to see whether anyone else has been able to use this card, particuarly people with similar/identical system specs to me (as under).

Asus A7A266 (bios 1006)
Athlon 1.4gig
DVD
CDRW
28gig hdd
256mb ram (prob generic)
Asus Gforce3 V8200 deluxe
Nvidia detonator 14.10 (beta)
SBlive 5.1
Ali integrated driver (latest version 4.37?)

I have tried doing everything (I think) including clean install without sound card and with various video drivers and mboard/agp drivers. The only thing sharing the IRQ with the video card is the ACPI IRQ holder with PCI steering so I don't think I'm suffering from an IRQ conflict.

Any help would be appreciated as I'm fast coming to my wits end and am contemplating exchanging either the video card or the motherboard.

Cheers, Tenere

I have the Asus V8200 Deluxe on my Pentium 4 computer. I have no problems what-so-ever.

Do you have an option in your BIOS that says "Primary VGA Adapter" or something close to that? You may want to check it out because if it's set to PCI, change it to AGP.

Also, do you have Fast-Writes enabled? Side-Banding? Is your BIOS set to use 4x AGP?

Thanks for the reply, 007.

Yes I do have the BIOS set to AGP as primary video adapter.

Bios is set to 4x AGP and display properties confirms same as 4x.

The display properties tells me that I have sideband addressing enabled and fast writes disabled. This is a bit strange because I have both enabled in the BIOS.

Also, I have installed the VGART driver that came with the V8200 CD.

I'm starting to wonder whether there are compatibility problems with the AMD mobo and Geforce3 ??

Is that an AMD motherboard? Sorry I?m not familiar with that mb. If it is you will need to download the AMD video driver for it. You should be able to find it at their website. You might look at Asus?s website for it too. I know you can download it at the Epox website as a last resort. Sorry I don?t have any links for you but I?m at work. I will check back when I get home and if you haven?t found them yet I will get you the links.

Disable your sidebanding. That should solve your problems. Get fast writes working, too. I'm wondering if fast writes are disabled because of sidebanding. I do not use sidebanding, but fast writes are working for me. (Asus P4T)

fishingeek, this is the Asus A7A266, which uses a 423 pin socket, making it an "AMD" motherboard. However, this board utilizes the ALi Magik chipset, so there are no VIA nor AMD north/south bridges on here. He will be using his own Ali Magik AGP driver.

I'll be damned if I can get Sandbanding and Fastwrite working on my ASUS P3v4X and ASUS v8200! :(
