Asus v7700 (GeForce2) problems

I just replaced my ancient Voodoo Banshee video card with an Asus v7700 Pure GeForce GTS, and was experiencing some problems. There has always been someone here before able to help me, so I knew that this would be the best place to look for answers.

For the most part, the card is working great. But after installing the card and drivers, I can no longer access Windows Display properties. I've tried both right-clicking and choosing "Properties" and double clicking "Display" in the control panel. In both cases I get the error message "An error occured while Windows was working with the Control Panel file C:\\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\DESK.CPL."

It seems to be a problem on the Windows side, rather than with the video card itself. Is there any way to fix this other than a fresh install of Windows?

I got tons of problems when i install my Creative Annihilator2 on my system over TNT. But when i reinstall my win98se, they're all G-O-N-E
Just put all ur saved files you need in other partition and restore it back...

Isn't there an utlity for adjusting display properties that comes with the GeForce2 card? Can you access that?

Did you do a clean uninstall of the old driver before installing the new driver?

Yes, the utility Asus provides works for adjusting resolution and color depth. But I need access to the windows display properties to set wallpaper, screensaver, etc.

I tried installing the drivers with several methods (I've got a recent backup image of the C partition, so reseting it to it's original condition is easy), including removing the old driver and leaving it as a standard VGA adapter before installing the v7700 drivers. No matter which method I used, I ended up with the same error.

I am also having low framerates out of my new Gladiac, and I think what Nvidia2000 said is the best way to go. I might reinstall win98se this weekend and hope to get better results. If not, the K7V is on its way to replace the k7m...
