Asus V7700 deluxe, cannot get video-in to work. Tried everything.

Hello folks, I'm new to the forums but read once in a while. I just picked up an Asus v7700 deluxe and I'm upgrading from a voodoo 3500. The card works great except I cannot get the video-in to work at all. When using Asus's video live software, I just get a pink screen where the video should appear. I have all the latest software/drivers and have re-installed things numerous times to no avail. My system configuration is:

Win2k OS
K6-2 500mhz on FIC VA-503+ (upgrading soon)
Asus V7700 deluxe 32mb
ATI Rage PCI card (for secondary monitor)
192mb ram
SB-Live value
various drives and some other misc parts..

Please help, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

Dude,

If you want to capture images, DON'T use the Video Live!
That's for surveillance!

Your card came with Ulead video studio.
Connect the source video to the card, start it, then start Ulead, and fiddle a bit with the program. Eventually, press "Record". You'll see that it works!

Cheers!

Sorry, I should have mentioned that I dont have any luck in Ulead V Studio either.. here's what it says when I attempt to capture:

Error: Connection to capture driver failure. Driver may be in use or has been moved.
Capture Device was not detected.

Thanks for the reply..

I have managed to get around the error message in Ulead but I'm still getting only a Green screen.. no video on screen.. damn. Please help guys/gals 🙂

Hmmm... something's screwy here...

Have you made sure everything's installed correctly? Normally, if you connect an exterior video source to the card, it should show you what's coming in... The green screen means that something is connected the wrong way. Try it again. What are you using as an exterior source? Best thing is a VCR. Leave the tape running, with the cables connected to your card, and play with the controls in Ulead. It SHOULD work. Otherwise, you'll probably want to reinstall the card afresh.
Keep us posted.

One more thing - use Ulead, the program, not the Wizard...

Hello, yup something is screwy still ..

I've checked everything, reinstalled everything with the latest drivers and i've now even installed the latest NVidia reference drivers (you can still use the ASUS live capture drivers with this) and it hasnt made a difference. This leads me to think that it's not the display drivers, just the capture drivers. I've tried different versions of these(the ones on the cd and the latest ones from the asus ftp site) I'm using a camcorder for input. I get only a green screen when capturing, on a program like video live, on the viewing screen that's pink but in that program when trying to capture or in ULEAD it gives me only a green screen. Wierd. This doesnt make sense.

Mrfusion,

I see a pattern here. I also have a 7700DL and capture problems. Like you I have a K6 processor, a k63+, and I suspect that there is an issue with either K6's or SS7/Via MB's.

I have managed to get capture to work by using older drivers, Asus 5.33cw or similar (I'm not sure about the cw I'm at work). Capture did not work when first installed, it eventualy "came good" after several driver changes and updates. As a result all I can say is that 5.33 worked for me but with an unknown "history" of changes prior. I took a Ghost image as soon as it started working and this is now my "base build".

I was previously using a 6800DL and had similar issues, I was unable to capture with any driver after 5.33. I have tried various combinations of files (eg capture dll's)"pasted" into later drivers, but with no success.

We are probably two of the very small number of users with a high end card and an old low end cpu/mb, so this issue is not going to make it to the top of the ASUS support list if it is limited to Socket 7 users (What support I hear you say !). The overkill Graphics card is part of an upgrade in stages strategy ready for the day I move to Socket A.

I intend doing some more "driver splicing" and if I get a 6.xx driver to work I will let you know. Testing the 6.xx's shows a definate performance improvement but I don't want to loose the capture capability.

Good luck

Bluescreen, thanks for the in depth reply. I really appreciate it! I agree with you, we are probably a rare breed of people still using these old CPUs and motherboards. I too just bought this card as a beginning stage of a *major* upgrade... 1.2ghz here I come!

Here's what I just discovered... on a hunch I removed my ATI rage PCI card and what do you know , I can get video in! I am using the latest Detonator 3 drivers straight from NVidia (which are supposed to be better than the latest asus drivers) and i have the latest capture drivers installed too from asus(live46b2.zip). Now, that still doesnt solve your problem (sorry) but maybe you could experiment with the NVidia drivers. Do you have a secondary graphics card installed? Now, i am off to figure out how to get both cards working at the same time with video - in. I had it working fine with my 3dfx voodoo 3500. Thanks again and good luck.

Whalen, haha.. blame that on one of my ancestors changing the spelling eons ago 🙂 I wonder if all the Whelans and Whalens are really from the same blood a few hundred years ago? There are alot of us.. I'll see you around!
