I am looking into getting a video card that will allow me to capture video from a camcorder using the S-Video input. I'll be using this on an ASUS A7V MB with a TB 1Ghz. From what I've seen on the web so far was that the radeon doesn't perform as well as the geforce2 cards in graphics performance, I haven't been able to see anything about the video capturing part of the cards. The deluxe seems the way to go except for the price issue. I've put in for one of those Gladiac 64MB Ultras for $120 but I doubt that it will go thru. So what do you all think?

Thanks,
KK

Apparently (haven't tried them both) the Radeon has better video capture (Tom's Hardware or Sharky Extreme had a comparison, check the sites). But after my failed ATI Rage Fury Pro experience, I steered away from ATI. I really don't like their approach to users. I love my new 7700 Deluxe, and the fact that it was produced with dedication - something I have not seen in ATI.

My second observation is this: no regular graphics card (except some higher versions of Matrox) will give you professional quality capture. You need to go the Firewire way, or use a separate capture device, like the ones from Pinnacle Systems. So, you won't make DVD's with a Radeon or a v7700. Therefore, if you're aware of this limitation but still willing to go on, either card will do just as fine. If you already have a DVD hardware decoder on your machine, take the 7700. Radeon users will say it has better 2D image (though I have not seen a difference between my previous ATI cards and the 7700 on the desktop or in Photoshop), but a Geforce is, well, a Geforce. I know I'm biased now, but can't help it.

As I said compare the two. Then welcome to the Radeon club. It's a no brainer when you see the difference.

Of course you can't see the difference. In a thread in another forum you said you had an Emachines monitor stuck at 60HZ? A trident would look good set to that.

What is a good price for the Radeon 64MB w/ VIVO? CDR-Expess i believe has that card for $215 OEM plus 10 or 11 dollars shipping. Is this okay to buy this OEM. What software comes with it retail? I already have Premier 5 I believe, what else would I need. It should have drivers and a 1 year warrantee.

Thanks,

Is the Radeon 32MB AIW better or worse than the Radeon 64MB for capturing
