Well... first off hi there :)

I know this isn't the tech support forum but I read through that forum and it seemed all messy and jumbled with all sorts of other tech problems, so I figured I would stick to the video forum.. anyway

I've had this exact same problem with two completely different machines running two different cards and motherboards.. and I've read many things on many forums about people having the same problem.. although I haven't been able to find a solution for it, which leads me to believe that if so many people get the same problem there MUST be a solution (and also that I'm pretty damn blind if there is one)...

Here is my system right now:

P3 800 EB cpu
Asus P3V4X MB
256 pc133 ram
Asus V6800 Geforce 256 DDR
running detonator 3 and dx 8
(300w power supply)

Basically.. my system locks up running any game in decent quality.. things like
Quake3
UT
Sacrifice
Hitman
Homeworld

anything that you want to LOOK good heh..

games i don't have this problem with are
Half-Life
and Everquest

which i think both run in 16 bit so.. voila

Anyway.. the things i've read is that the AGP port is not getting enough juice from the MB to support what it wants to do.. so you need to either clock the card DOWN or pump up the juice on your MB AGP slot

but the thing is is that my old system which was a P2 450 on an ASUS P2B (440bx) board with a 250w power supply and a Guillemot TNT2 Ultra (Maxi Gamer 32) did the EXACT SAME THING

this new system is powered better and I've monitored the pwr on the agp slot using that asus probe program and it never went up above 3.5

argh, this is very frustrating because i can't seem to fix it.. i was hoping someone on here would have a solution for me..

Thx for your time

Heh, this is almost exactly like my problems :)

>P3 800 EB cpu
>Asus P3V4X MB
>Asus V6800 Geforce 256 DDR
>(300w power supply)

BX motherboard, similar CPU, same videocard, same powersupply, same problem.

>but the thing is is that my old system which was a P2 450 on an ASUS >P2B (440bx) board with a 250w power supply and a Guillemot TNT2 >Ultra (Maxi Gamer 32) did the EXACT SAME THING

Heh, my old setup was almost identical to your old setup, same vidcard, too.

As for solution, didn't find anything that worked (besides getting another vidcard, that is). Sorry if I am not offering anything constructive, it's just that your problems are so similar to mine, it's bizarre.

i also have a v6800 on a via KT-133 system and have no problems at all running games. i don't play the games you spoke of but do play need for speed high stakes at 1024x768 at 32 bit color with no trouble. go to viahardware where you will find this subject talked about in their forum under AGP 4X fix. i believe that is your trouble.
