Anyone have a mobo with a socket am2 and used the asus update utility? For some reason ASUS's website does not list my AM2 mobo as one of the boards that will work with the Asus Update Utility:

http://support.asus.com/techni...no=714&SLanguage=en-us

If you scroll down under "Current ASUS Live Update version supports the following Mainboards/Operating Systems" it does not list a Socket AM2. Does this mean that I can't use the Asus update utility? If not, why is it ASUS includes a CD that even contains the utility to update the bios if my board doesn't support it. LOL I currently don't have a floppy drive so I'm pretty much out of luck if I can't use this utility :(

seems I tried to give the utility a whirl. For some reason no matter what ftp site i pick, the utility only downloads updates 0307 (which is lower then the one i have now) and 0609. According to asus's website 1203 is the latest one. Anyone have a clue why the utility is only giving me 0609?

Hi SSJGouKi,

Let me offer an alternative suggestion. Go in your BIOS near the last page and look for the BIOS flash update facility there. You can flash the BIOS right from within the BIOS easily and, I think, more safely than using the in-Windows method.

You'll have to download the update (.bin file) directly from the ASUS website. Just go there, go to the Download tab, put in your motherboard selections and it will take you to a screen where you can select "BIOS" and then download the correct update version to your computer. Put that update file in a convenient location, like C:\xxxx.bin, then re-boot, go into the BIOS, go to that update facilty and start it. You will have to navigate to the C:\xxx.bin file and then excute the flash... It will do it in about 2 minutes.

Does this work for you?

Absolutely... that's what I was referring to. If you can get to the ASUS web site and download the latest BIOS file, then you're in like Flynn :) Just tuck that new BIOS file away until you're ready and then use the EZ Flash utility to update.

BTW, you may be able to use EZ Flash to also save a copy of the present BIOS in case you want it for the future. Just read the prompts carefully. If so, save the old one BEFORE you flash to the new one.

SSJ,

Not sure what would keep your C: drive from showing up. When you open EZ Flash, it should lead you to the Explorer Navigation tree for your HDD...

Try putting the .bin file in a sub-directory (that's what I usually do), something like C:\Download...

Then start EZ Flash again and when it opens, follow its instructions to a "T". Then when you see the Explorer-like navigation tree of your HDD, drill down to C:\Download\newbios.bin (or whatever its name is) then follow the instructions to flash the BIOS...

It certainly should work -

Good luck,

Noel

SSJ,

Added note: If the above doesn't work, I'd call ASUS Tech Support and ask their advice. It's possible they could send you a new BIOS chip with the update on it, then you just physically change the chip. Then again, maybe the update isn't one that is worth all the trouble :)
