I'm looking for a lightweight business laptop for a frequent traveller. Only major programs running are Office, nothing requiring a graphics card (I guess other than any boost it gives to responsiveness of Win7).
Must have:
13" or 14" screen (have external monitor so 13" is probably preferable)
<4.5 lbs (ideally under 4)
solid build construction & keyboard
webcam/microphone built in for skype
would like to next day/in home/take it somewhere support instead of mail in
Prefer:
i3 or i5
4GB of ram
bluetooth
Don't care
-no need for optical drive
-only used for Office so graphics card doens't matter
-i plan on ditching the standard hard drive and replacing with an SSD
Budget
Ideally <$800-900 for the laptop itself, plus warranty and aftermarket SSD on top of that.
The Asus U35Jc-XA1 comes in at $680 after the rebate on Amazon right now with a 2 year warranty, which seems great. i3, 4GB ram, nvida card, <4 lbs.
The only problem is that I am really wary of the service. You have to mail it back in if something happens and it could take weeks to get it back. That is just not an option for this laptop.
My next thought was the Lenovo T410s, which is lightweight, but starts at $1,299, and then slapping an SSD and a warranty on it makes it >$1,500.
The regular Lenovo T410 can match the Asus is price roughly, and has better quick service, but weighs around 5 lbs.
Not sure what to get from Dell, HP, etc that is comparable.
The Lenovo X201 is close in price, but 12" might be too small, when does it start being too small? (Currently has a 15.6" so a 12" is a huge drop in size).
What do you guys recommend? Does anyone have any experience with the ASUS warranty on their notebook? I have a monitor and a motherboard from them but all my issues have been resolved by Newegg not Asus themselves.
