I just installed this card and I was very happy with the performance and features. However, I looked closer and noticed there are horizontal lines going up on the screen. At first I thought it was the catv cable...after changing it with a newer one the problem was still there.

Any ideas how to get ride of the lines?

Thanks

Where would I get a signal booster?

BTW: I had a leadtek tv card (non-deluxe) before and I never had these lines with it.

Have you tried changing channels? Does it happen to every channel?

Yup...every channel :(

Edit: I'm going to get a signal booster from radio shack today and see if it helps

Yes, but the effect won't be as dramatic as with the cable tv signals. As for a signal booster, you really need to be careful with what you get, as poor quality signal boosters will actually introduce more noise than amplifying the signal. Motorola makes a dedicated drop amp marketed as a "cable modem signal booster". B&M's like BB sell it for ~$80, but you can find it on ebay and some e-tailers for ~$40. I also saw one at my local BB for $45 as an open box item.

I installed one about 2 months ago and am also using an AsusTV 880. I'm guessing the lines are a result of a weak signal coupled with the CX2880's adaptive comb filter that is producing the wavy lines. Check to see how many times your signal has been split leading to the cable line where your tuner is. You may want to get some better splitters or run a single-split line to your TV tuner.

I replaced a splitter and bought the drop amp and my IQ is much improved; picture quality is excellent.

Hmm, doesn't look I'll be getting this Asus card after all, as I would rather not have to deal with this potential problem :( ;I've just been through hell dealing with a defective Leadtek Winfast TV2000 XP Deluxe that I had to RMA back to newegg.

Any other recommendations for a TV tuner?

I would pass on it. Its specs are no different than one you'd find from Radio Shack or Recoton at BB. The signal range will tell you it'll introduce more noise and may offset much of the benefit of any signal gain (50-900mhz). Most quality splitters are rated from 5mhz-900mhz; some of the better ones are up to 1ghz or 2ghz. The motorola I believe has a signal range of 5-2000Mhz and only had 3db noise, which is less than most signal splitters. Ideally, you'll want to install the motorola drop amp from the outside line, then split it with a quality splitter with 1 going to your PC/cable modem room and split there again. Use the other feed to split to the rest of the TVs. If thats not feasible, get a good quality 4 way splitter (Acoustic Research makes a nice 5-2000Mhz version).

You can compare some of the stats here on the the GE vs. Motorola:

GE Amp

vs.

Motorola Drop Amp.

You may also see some improvement in your broadband performance as well.

wait a sec, I don't have splitters, each TV is on its own cable outlet, so I should be ok with this card :)
