ASUS TOP 4870 temps Help!

Picked up a ASUS DK TOP 4870 and the temps are a little high. Tried OCing a little and it crashed. I have an old Arctic cooling S1 laying around so I picked up a couple of 2000RPM 100mm fans and put on it and installed it on the 4870. This dropped my stock idle temps from 55C to 43C. Not bad I thought but when I ran Furmark to see how hot it got my temps went above 100C in a minute then crashed. I've tried reseating it. Different thermal compounds. Same thing every time. Anyone have any ideas? Is the S1 non Rev2 incompatible with 4870? It appears to be making good contact. Mounting holes line up. Guess I'll put stock cooler back on.

It sounds like there isn't any thermal paste! I have been using 24 Carat Diamond Extreme Performance paste and MX-2, that are better then anything out there to me. Is it still under warranty or Voided from you tinkering? If not under warranty then I would try one of the 2 thermal pastes I posted and see how much your temps drop. I know my VC had thermal pads on the GPU and memory so I took them off and used Diamond 24 Carat and temps dropped immediately and also did the Q6600 and the same thing.

Thanks, JASTECH

My 4870 is watercooled and tops out a 40c. However, make sure you didn't dislodge that metal shim that protects the core. If it's even a bit off you'll get horrible temps. I hope you're using a non-conductive (i.e. ceramic) HS compound.

Used Arctic Silver Ceramique and OCZ freeze. I tried more compound last time and still it goes over 100C. Its just so odd stock load under Furmark Was 80C.

Not sure if I voided it, but I'm not returning it. Worst case I will just run it stock. It's already factory OC'ed to 815 core 925 memory. I just wanted it cooler than it was.
