ASUS has been keeping the lid on the Maximums V Formula R.O.G. motherboards however now more info has been revealed, by way of VR-zone:

Asus will be offering two slightly different SKUs of the motherboard in question. Beyond what we reported back in March, not that much appear to have change with the board itself, but it looks like Asus will be bundling a dual band mini PCI Express 802.1a/b/g/n Wi-Fi/Bluetooth 4.0 card with the board, something that wasn't clear at the press event.

Sadly this is the best picture we've managed to dig up of the two SKUs. The big secret that Asus was hiding on the boards with a small cardboard cover with an R.O.G. logo on it is a headphone amplifier. Sadly we don't have a picture of it, but it's using a Texas Instruments 6120A2 amplifier, an amplifier Asus has used in some of its higher-end sound cards like the Xonar Essence STX. We're still not sure about the audio codec for this motherboard, so we'll have to wait and see, as Asus is simply using its SupremeFX IV branding which doesn't really give away a lot of details, as the company has used various audio controllers with the SupremeFX branding.

As we mentioned, Asus will be offering two SKUs of the Maximus V Formula, one with and one without the ThunderFX USB sound card and amplifier. We're still not sure we get the point of the ThunderFX as a motherboard bundle, as this C-Media 6631 powered USB sound card appears to have been designed more for console use as a headset amplifier and noise cancelling solution. We'd rather have had the noise cancelling built into the motherboard audio in this case via some external microphone array, but then again, a pair of noise cancelling headphones ought to do the job just as well.

Asus should be unveiling the Maximus V Formula at Computex next week, alongside a range of other new R.O.G. products at a press event.

Gigabyte's G1.Sniper 3 is available currently and has a few features this board is lacking. Still, Asus makes a better BIOS so the board is more pleasant to work with.

Honestly, looking at the photos this board seems to be a high end mid range looking board.

I don't think Asus is doing the marketing correctly.

How are they going to sell these premium boards, when their non-premium budget boards Overclocks just as well, and seem so far, just as durable.?

None of those super exclusive features are actually useful, and a seasoned builder (the ones who would ever consider these boards) would know that, yea?

SupremeFX is just silly, everyone should know by now that a budget external HT receiver produces much better sound.

Water-cooling the chipset, Um.. why?? We are using less and less power, with 22nm.

what's water cooled isn't the chipset, it's the voltage regulation circuits.

I'm interested in the wi-fi but that is all on this board. wished they included wi-fi on more lower end boards.

The ROG motherboards use their highest quality VRMs, mosfets, and capacitors. They call it DIGI+ II. The other motherboards, even the P8z77-v premium uses different components. More phases but the VRMs and everything are supposedly different.

Your budget external HT receiver can't get 5.1 from games through the motherboard's audio chip via optical. It doesn't support Dolby Digital live or DTS Connect encoding. So you'll have to use the multichannel analog outputs anyway.

Yikes...$300+?

Well...that's cutting into X79 territory there. I don't know if Z77 is worth THAT much.

The Supreme FX IV supports DTS Connect btw. Despite what I said before. Just found this out recently. So you can have 5.1 audio from games through a HT receiver using just the motherboard.

They even have a model that comes with a dedicated external Headphone AMP. A more expensive model no doubt.

wish they would release a ROG board that wasn't RED/Black. Not a fan of red and never fits my build themes so i always turn to Gigabyte. Would definitely give a ROG board a shot if they made them without red...

Lol... the whole ASUS P8Z77 series, ranging from P8Z77-V and up, have Wi-Fi.

I know this was a late answer, but better late then never ;)

These are supposed to be at Newegg on Monday! This is from the ROG boards from an Asus employee, but he caveated it by saying sometimes there are unexpected delays. But they do seem to be filtering into the supply chain.
