Hi Guys,

Building a new computer with this video card and installing the drivers that came on the CD, I think they are Nvidia reference driver 34.01 or something like that. The card seems to install fine, but I would like to run Driver 30.82. I downloaded 30.82 from Nvidia and install them but in control panel the driver does not change. I noticed when I install the 30.82 driver it creates a folder on my C drive call "Nvidia" and puts all the driver files there. I have tried to update driver through device manager and point it to that Nvidia foler on C drive with no success. Anyway, I must be doing something wrong. Every other Nvidia card I have owned I would just download the new Nvidia driver in an EXE file and run it, the new driver would show in control panel. So whats the trick to installing a driver with this ASUS card.....LOL!

Thanks guys!!

You'll find a "utilities" thread at the top of the first page in this forum folder which contains a link to a site called "Driver Heaven". They have a utility called "driver cleaner" which will remove all old drivers, including the file which causes WinXP to auto-install the default nVidia driver. Follow the included instructions carefully, and you should be able to install any driver properly.

The problem I'm having is not as you described. When I first installed the card, windowsXP did not recognize it and did not install default drivers. The new hardware wizard came up instead. I cancelled out of the wizard. At this point I installed the 30.82 driver I had downloaded from Nvidia. I rebooted and when I came to the desktop, the "new hardware found wizard " came up again, thus telling me that the 30.82's were not installed. I checked control panel/device manager and sure enough the driver didnt take. Whats happening is the 30.82's are creating a folder on my C drive called Nvidia, and all the files are going there, which is normal I know. For some reason the 30.82's are not finding my video card. When I load the driver from the ASUS CD that came with the card, the driver loads and works. Where is the CD putting the drivers? The Nvidia drivers on the ASUS CD are not creating a folder in the C drive. I then tried loading the 30.82's after loading the drivers from the ASUS CD. Again it created the folder on my C drive, but the driver version did not change in control panel/device manager.

Any Ideas?
