Asus Temperature readings

Hi, I heard somewere that the temperatures reported in the BIOS on Asus main boards and in their software PC Probe are a little exagerated, and are actually below the reported temperature, is this true?

Which ASUS Board?

On the original A7V boards, the temp varied according to which BIOS release you are using. On the A7V133 (and the Iwill KT133A board and a number of KT133/A boards) the CPU temp is taken from a thermal diode that is mounted directly on the motherboard about 1/4 inch below the CPU so the accuracy isn't super. I found that on my A7V133 if i use a thermal probe connected to the top surface of the CPU it is 5-7 C lower than the built in one.

Just get Motherboard Monitor 5. The temps stay in your sys tray and are very accurate.

The board is an Asus CUSL2. Also, MBM5 from where?

I also recommend MBM5 but all it does is read the temp from the ASUS APIC chip, in my experience, the value reported doesn't change whether u use MBM or the asus probe software.

According to Sandra, my readings are CPU:15C and MB 25C. I guess these are pretty inaccurate, even though it is freezing in here🙂 However it is reading the CPU fan at the same speed, which do I trust!

I am under the impression that the CUSL2 uses a different algorithm than most other asus boards to calculate the temp. MBM5 uses a different setting for the CUSL2.

I'll agree about the original A7V having funky readings based on the bios. Does anyone know if the bios changes actually do make it run faster? Or is it just the reading that get's messed up? I went from 1005C to 1007 and BANG!, my CPU idle temps jumped from 48, 49ish to 56, 57ish!!!!
