Asus STX Not Being Detected

I recently put together a new build. Today I tried to install my Asus Essence STX sound card but it's not being detected. I know it works because I was using it in my prior PC. I tried re-seating it several times and made sure the molex connector was in properly. I checked under Device Manager and there's nothing showing.

I tried it in both the PCI-E x1 and x4 slots and it wasn't detected in either. I know at least that my x4 slot is functioning as I had tested out a video card in it. Prior to installing the STX I disabled the onboard audio. I'm not sure what else to try at this point.

I read of someone else having a similar problem and he said to resolve it he needed to set the PCI-E slot as x1. I know in my BIOS there's a PCI-E slot configuration which allows you to set the operation mode of the slots but it's currently set as Auto which should automatically configure the setting. Is there anything else I should be looking at?

I'm using Windows 8.1 and my motherboard is a Gigabyte H97-D3H.

Been googling it a bit and there are various solutions, some of which you've tried although I'm not sure about all of them. Have you installed the latest USB 3 chipset drivers for your motherboard? It seems not having the proper ones installed can cause issues with boards that have a PLX chips on them and I think your H97 does.

Source? I've never seen a $100 board with a PLX, but it would be really interesting if Gigabyte went that route.

Well, that was stupid. I have a modular PSU and tried using a different Molex cable. That didn't work. I then set the x4 slot as x1 in the BIOS. That didn't work. I then installed the drivers which I hadn't done before and the card was immediately recognized. I just find it strange that Windows couldn't detect it.
