Asus Striker 2 Formula SLI Problems

Ok hi, i'm really new to these forums but i hope i can get some decent if not, perfect help/ideas.

I've just recently bought this motherboard, Q6600 2x8800GT 512 from Inno3D running 4GB RAM on Vista 32b (i know, i know, max 3gb of RAM) yet, for some reason, i can not get my SLi to detect.

The BIOS i love, its amazingly well laid out... the problem is it wont detect the SLi

I have both cards plugged in, both powered up, running a 1000W PSU and yet the bios is saying "SLi Ready Memory : Not detecting"

And, in Device Manager it has a yellow question mark against the 2nd 8800GT

Could it be the SLi cable? I'm really new to SLi this is basically my first attempt, so I am not too sure.

I've always been ASUS yet lately, ive been reading about this eVGA board that also uses the 780i chipset, is it really any better than the Striker 2 Formula?

SLI ready memory is to do with DDR2 ram that have the predefined EPP profiles that allows them to adjust memory frequency and timings based on voltage/Overclocking etc, so in short thats not the problem here. Do you have the SLI bridges connected appropriately between the two cards? It sounds like a driver problem to me so you might want to try the latest BETA's along with the WHQL's from Nvidias site.

ok, im getting the latest beta drivers to see if it will fix it, yet im still going to look for a decent mainboard to support crossfire.

I will sell off my current setup and get 2x 3870x2 and a decent mainboard to suit, any ideas for a mainboard are helpful, i was considering ABIT IX38 QuadGT

Edit : I'm affraid to report back the latest nVidia drivers have not fixed my problem.

I still can not enable SLi in the nVidia control panel

To be on the safe side, you should install the GPU one by one. Install the top one first with the drivers. Use only 2GB of memory. Reboot and make sure the drivers are installed. Shut down the machine and install the 2nd GPU. Reboot and let the drivers install the 2nd GPU. Wait until you see the system tray pops off the "Drivers installed successfully" sign. Now you enable SLI. Then reboot once again to see "Your system is SLI-capable... etc" pop up. Shut down the machine and put the other 2GB back in.

Lopri, thats probably the most intelligent response I've heard all year to any question I've asked.

When I get home from work I will give that a shot.
