Anyone using Asus SSD caching? I just purchased an X79 board with it and I'm having trouple finding information about it. Anyone know if I can use an SSD to cache a RAID-0 array?

I read it earlier. It looks like I have to use the Marvell controller if I want Asus SSD caching. The Marvell controller only has two ports making it impossible with my setup. I had planned on using a 50GB SSD for caching two 3TB drives in RAID-0.

Well, yeah, those are the ports with the SSD Cache sticker on them, but that just means that's where you can put the SSDs. There are four total SATA 6Gb/s ports; two Intel and two Marvell. Just put your boot devices (the hard drives) on the Intel ports.

The Marvell caching is limited to the Marvell ports - one SSD, one HDD..

All of the Intell ports can be utilized for SRT , so RAID 0, or whatever, up to 5 spindle drives + SSD caching is doable..

I'm not so sure it's limited to those ports, as the product manual doesn't say as much and the software isn't limited to those ports. I'll ask ASUS to confirm for me.

Also, Intel SRT is not supported on X79... I cover that here: ASUS P9X79 Deluxe Motherboard Review

Official word: "SSD caching is limited to the Marvell controller as it is intialized by the firmware on that controller."

Intel's already confirmed with me that RST is not supported on X79.

Thanks for the info .. I expected SRT support to be similar to Z68.. I was wrong.

The Marvell caching is available on some Z68 boards as well ..
