ASUS SK8V CPU Fan Backplating

Not sure of the actual name to the plating underneath the motherboard that helps hold the CPU fan but...

I'm trying to remove the said plating underneath the motherboard to install a Thermaltake Bigwater CPU waterblock. However, after removing the plastic frame where a fan will normally sit, the aluminum (is it?) plating underneath the motherboard won't come off.

What's a safe method to remove that?
