ASUS' Silent 7800GT

I like the cooler myself. I know the 7800GTX is pretty quiet however, so I'd be hard pressed to pay GTX prices for a quieter GT, but I can see someone wanting one of these for sure.

i like how you can rotate the heatpipe arm part so you can cater for mountin in cases like the lian li's that mount the mobo the otherway round, or if you wanna SLI them

great design

If they had something like this, I'd definately consider it for my X1800 cards.

Asus had that thing on their website since mid december.

My post from december

I really like the look of it. Reminds me of an engine. 🙂
But I still wonder how much case cooling one needs to keep this cool. Could turn out to be a rather pointless cooling solution as far as silence goes.

Wow, now that is impressive!

With the heatpipe being rotateable, one could even use a couple in SLI, i would assume 😀

The only issue i see with these is that while they may perform closely to the GTX when OCed, i bet they'll also cost more too...

Someone needs to tell BFG10K about this- he will be all over it.

As far as SLI goes, I wonder how passive will do with that? The heat would rise off the card below into the heatsink of the card above. (in SLI your card closest to the CPU is always hotter because of this)

Anyway looks like a stellar GT, the thing to have for the silent PC set.

Not sure I'd take the chance again. I had two of the Gigabyte 6600GT silent cards. In SLI the cards ran way too hot (over 100 degrees, with the master card pushing 120), and the artifacts started just at the stock speeds. I even tried underclocking, but the cards would fail the Nvidia tests. The cards individually were fine, just running about 15 degrees warmer than a standard 6600GT.

I have decent airflow in my case, but to resolve the issue I would have had to install a dedicated fan. That kind of defeats the purpose of fanless cards.
