The ROG Matrix 7970 is ASUS' addition to a growing line of upcoming Radeon HD 7970 graphics cards by various AMD add-in board (AIB) partners, with extremely high (≥25% factory OC), although its exact clock speeds are not revealed at this point. What we do know, is that the card will be backed by a strong VRM, which will support its factory OC, and then some. The card draws power from two 8-pin PCIe power connectors.

Insert generic power consumption comment here

Insert lousy AMD driver comment here

Insert but it's not a GTX 670 comment here

Ok, now that we have the bulk of what this thread is going to be about covered....

That looks to be a fine card that'll be right up there in terms of performance and anybody that owns one is sure to be a lucky person.

All depends on the price. If this card is around 500 and can do a solid 1250 core it'll be worth it. If its 550 it'll be a failure

I'd buy it for 550. considering the fact that If I were trying to hit 1200 on my own, I would've bought a new cooler, and with this card you get the "improved" vrm

Make it single slot with a full cover block and it would actually be competitive. ;)

Two slot cards are bad enough. Three slot cards are reminiscent of what comes out of a garage. ;)

Crazy, possibly.

However, paying $550 for top tier performance is nothing new

Whatever happened to Don Karnage? I miss his old hardware buying adventures.

His "buying adventures" were actually him leasing those video cards and he was getting the money to lease the cards by scamming fellow Anandtech members. And yes I'm serious.

Wow, I didn't realize that. Did all of his info get posted to the trade forums as a scammer? What a jerk.

Any word on how much it will cost? Since the 7970's are already almost 9 months or so old will they just continue to pump out different editions?

Wow! And all this time I thought he was sitting on a pot of gold! How was he "leasing" cards and other hardware? I was wondering why he was doing so many hardware swaps/upgrades and at times they were side/down grades...D:

There are companies that basically rent out video cards. I forget the name of the one he was using, but it's in the thread of his. We found their Facebook page, and even his posts on that page lol. Saw posts from him thanking them for the GTX670 that he had. The day they announced the availability date of their GTX690 was the day he posted here talking about "I lost my mind" when he "ordered" one.

Even caught him on a BF3 server, where I was griefing and trash talking him. His response was that the name we had for him "was fake" and that he'll "never be caught". Uh huh sure, that's why he gave the money back. lol idiot.

Anywaaaay... this Matrix 7970 really shouldn't cost more than $500. Awesome power circuitry, build quality, and binning, but it's a bit late to charge a high premium this late in the cycle.

Did everyone get their money back? I hope someone found him and had a "man to man" talk to him. Talk about pond scum.

Holy crap. I didn't even know about that other thread until I stumbled upon this one. I remember seeing Don here all the time. So did he turn out to be a total scam artist? Talk about ruining your reputation. And to do it on a forum the size of AT is nuts.

Tell you what though, a guy that does stuff like that will eventually scam the wrong dude & won't know what to do when someone brings the pain. If you're dirty, you'll get yours in the end.

I must have missed some pertinent details. Why isn't his status "Banned"?

Yeh I read that whole thread too, what a crazy guy. I would be more worried about people finding you than the authorities getting involved lol.
