I just made a new machine, my first build, and no matter what I do I cannot get my sound to work. Reinstalled drivers many times.

Plus what worries me is on my device manager I have the wonderful exclamation of doom saying Device type is "other Devices", Manufacturer is "unknown" and location is "on ASMedia XHCI Controller".

Could this possibly be the source of my sound issue?

Have you enabled the soundcard in BIOS? It should be turned on by default, but it's worth checking
Did you get the drivers off the asus page or from your disk?

If you still have stuff listed as not installed properly in device manager, go through the asus page and get the latest versions fo drivers for chipset/sata and so on once more (skip over the utilitys, short of the thermal radar most of the others are kind of balls)

yes the soundcard is enabled. I got the drivers from the website and it will not let me install the drivers for the chipset..... it says my device is not supported????

I get this when i try to install the gpu drivers when using a onboard gpu, sounds like something is not being done right

Going to assume that you have a system drive where you install windows 7 sp1
in that case, do a fresh install of win 7 and the software listed under each section and in this general order from this page:

BIOS
try installing 1504, pretty stable so far from me and never hurts to be up to date

Can't give you direct links since the page is bit stalin, but that worked great every time i had to do a reformat of my win7 system

If you run into problems, at what step do you do so? Could you get us a screencap of the error message?

Alright I will try what you suggested and give you an update here in a couple hours. I will take a screen shot of the problem if it comes back.

Worked great. i guess i loaded the drivers out of order and it threw up. It got rid of that annoying exclamation of death and as for the audio i had to manually go into realteck and make it recognize the headset. It would detect it unless i went through device advance settings and click test. As soon as i tested it it came back recognizing the headset and works perfect and so does the microphone.

Thanks for all your help!
