ASUS RT-N66R and 5Ghz

I moved all my wireless stuff to 5Ghz but have a problem. The Asus is the main router while a Linksys crap-router is working the other end of the house, so coverage inside is seamless inside. It works great in the house, but as soon as I step outside a door, I drop signal on our phones. I have an iPad 2 that works fine outside the door though.

Isn't 5Ghz supposed to have better coverage and a stronger signal?

No, in fact, it's worse than 2.4Ghz as far as coverage goes (especially penetrating obstacles like walls). It is less congested, however, and faster for what coverage you do get (if using 802.11ac).
