Asus RT ac66u and Asus network card help online gaming speed?

We currently have a Cisco/LinkSys E4200v2 N900 router and a DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem with Cox Cable here in RI as a provider. We have the second fastest speed-tier from Cox, with 32Down/15Up, using the 'SpeedTest' site speed evaluation.

My wife's computer is also in this room, and we do not have the two computers networked. She has Vista as an OS. We have no pressing need to have the two computers networked. She does no online gaming.

Would this Asus router and adapter card be an improvement over what I have currently for multi-player FPS gaming? (Our movie viewing with our Roku & Netflix in the nearby bedroom is working fine with the setup we have now.) My desktop is wired.

What kind of improvement are you looking for? Only thing that you can influence with your equipment is latency, and if your equipment is working fine as is, then this will not be improved to any significant degree by changing your gear. Tell us what you are trying to improve and from what value you are trying to improve it from and you might get a better answer.

Is that linked Asus router capable of faster data transmission than the router I currently have/And would it make any difference in improving online gaming performance?

If you put $10 in a very large purse it is still $10.

I.e., unless your system is very slow not every Speed improvement makes it better for Gaming.

Your online-anything speed is set by Cox Cable, not by your router. Your wired connection to your router is 30x faster than the speed you are getting from Cox. The only reason a new router would help is if your old one is going bad.

Yes, it should do. Others have mentioned that it's the Internet connection that's the bottleneck, and this is true.

However, the Asus router has better specs meaning your gaming traffic will be processed that little bit faster.

Also, I notice the Linksys doesn't seem to have QoS (Quality of Service). The Asus does, so you can prioritize your gaming traffic, meaning that when other users, or programs on your desktop use the Internet, the gaming traffic will not be affected.

It has a bunch of other features that the Linksys doesn't have too:
