Asus RMA Sends You Used/Repaired Board?

Is it normal procedure for Asus RMA to send you a used, presumably repaired board when you RMA a motherboard to them? My Maximus Formula died and I used the regular RMA process. I got the replacement board yesterday and I noticed there was some thermal paste stuck on the CPU clasp. I assume this means the board is used. I'm just curious if this is routine for Asus. I also had the option to do a cross ship RMA with Asus, where they send you a new board before you send in your old one. I wonder if the cross ship RMA gets you a new board?

Does it really matter if its used as long as it has all the components and fully works? I know people prefer new, I know I do, but does it really make a difference when you look at it? And at least you know they checked and made sure that board would work properly, right?

Yes, RMA to a manufacturer for most computer parts and consumer electronics gets you back a refurbished replacement unless they happen to have excesss new stock.

It's usually only an RMA in the first xx days to a store like Newegg or a combined manufacturer/seller like Dell that gets you a new replacement.

Look at it this way: you sent in a used motherboard, you got back a used motherboard.

yes, and not only that.
if the warranty period remains the same on the refurb mb, then it should matter even less.
