I RMA_ed My Asus AGP board and their 2 day warning that if they do not hear from me in 2 days they will ship an upgrade to a PCIX board, has expired, so motherboard is in transit.

Now I have no experience or know how about PCI X cards. My AGP card is A radion All in Wonder 9800 pro. I can get by without a TV capability and do not play games. I do lots of DVD burning and use photoshop and often e-mail and yahoo messenger and Skype chat and IRC chats are on I have one gig memory available in 2 slots and a third slot can take another gig ( but I would need to buy it)

I will try and use my AGP card in another board I may buy later. But for now what cards do you recommend.

Someone recommended ATI x300 but that card seems to have 3 versions and the reviews on it say it is a compromising card in games.

HELP I only have a week before my board returns what do I need to get to not regrat my purchase?

One thing you'll need to clarify first ... do you play games or not?

The reason I ask is that for everything else the video card doesn't make a whole lot of difference, but for gaming its critical.

DO NOT buy a 6200TC it uses your own system memory. If you are not gaming the first one with 128meg of memory will work just fine.

I do not play games.

The RMA email said:

We are currently out of stock on your model K8N-E DLX and would like to upgrade you to the next available model at no additional cost to you: K8N4-E DLX with full set of accessories.

What are full set of accessories?

and I hope this answers the 2 questions about games and models or mother boards for Ram compatabili

But do you have PCI-X or PCI-E?

It's not the same thing you know.

Though I'm pretty sure that you have PCI-E (I don't think they even make PCI-X boards anymore?) it's still important to avoid the confusion.

I just called Asus tech support

Asus recommended either Nvidia EN1300 GS
or
ATI EAX1300
Both have 128 memory on board

Both made by ASUS low end

Any summaries on the cards I asked about will help a speedy purchase.
Thank you in advance

The K8N4-E DLX is has 1 PCI-Ex16, 3 PCI-Ex1 and 3 PCI slots.

It's basically the same board as your old K8N-E DLX, but with nForce 4 instead of 3. So your s754 CPU and DDR RAM should work.

So yes, you need a PCI-E video card.

And since you aren't doing any gaming on that machine, this 7300LE should get the job done very well, for less than $50.

And by 'full set of accessories' they mean cables, back slot USB/FW ports, back panel I/O shield, etc.

Yes; check the link I posted.

The 7300LE I also linked should work great on that board.

You should have just bought a used X300SE for $20-$25 if you don't game at all. But some don't like buying used.

:Q

He had a K8N-E DLX which uses DDR and s754 AMD, the same as his new K8N4-E DLX.

They are basically the same board, except the K8N4 uses nForce 4 and the K8N uses nForce 3.

I figured having dual dvi ports could be useful down the line (and to resell). At least the Geforce 7 you got is passively cooled :)

6600GT would destroy the 7300LE you got but since you don't play games, this doesn't matter.

yes I checked with Asus and then Noema confirmed what Asus told me. The old CPU and old Ram will work just fine Apoppin. Only thoingg I needed is the Video card change, which is going to be here before the motherboard comes. or both will come at the same time.

Thanks for asking
