Two new chipsets are to be released in Q4 2006:

ATI CrossFire Xpress 3200 for Intel (codenamed RD600)
NVIDIA nForce 590 (?) SLI for Intel (C55+MCP55; not C19+MCP55)

It's hard to say if they are better of not. Intel is planning to release D975XBX2 (Bad Axe 2) in Q4 2006. It is optimized for quad-core processors, but its chipset is a year-old 975X+ICH7DH. Then Bearlake comes in Q2 2007.

The RD600 appears to be only from DFI though :(
And thus far, nF5 for Intel is great for features (SLI, etc.), but severely lacking in overclockability.

If you don't need CF/SLI, you could wait a little for the C2 965 mobos, since i suspect they will OC even better than current 965s.

They are 965 boards using the C2 stepping 965 chipset.
The C2 stepping has a few fixes & iirc should be shipping to mobo mfrs now - the problem may be telling which boards have which stepping.
