Nvidia's fastest graphical monstrosity, the GTX 580 is currently enjoying the top spot. It the fastest singe GPU card in the market and is about to get a major overhaul, thanks to Asus. NordicHardware has managed to get a scoop on what Asus has been cooking in their labs. After demonstrating their custom Direct CU II cooler on AMD's HD 6970, its now Nvidia's turn.

This limited edition GTX 580 Direct CU II variant will sport an entirely custom built circuit board to begin with. This is necessary as Asus has bumped up the power phases from six to eight. The additional number of phases will be able to deliver more power than before thereby boosting the overclocking head room. Another noteworthy addition is that now the memory compartment will no longer draw additional power through the PCIE lane but rather directly through the 8-pin power connector. This reduces the stress on the motherboard during an intense gaming session or even while overlcocking.

Can you actually put these cards in quad sli?
It has the connectors for it.
Is there a motherboard that supports 4 triple slot cards? ???

Mabe this board?

That board has 7 PCIe slots, so it could support 2 of these triple slot cards, I think. This looks to be a beast of a 580, very interested in reviews...

Not sure how much of the air gets directed out the back, despite having the extra backplate solt vented.

triple slot? that's crazy. I got a Direct Cu I 460gtx and it's barely 2 slots, I'd say 1.75 slot width, this card looks nothing like the Direct Cu I, I'd say they should give it a new name like 'super wider Cu' or something.

That just looks like someone installed a two-fan Accelero with "ASUS" written on it. Nice to see it integrated, but the XTREME Plus version would take up as many slots and provide three fans.

I'm all for big cards with cool heatsinks but I think I draw the limit to a dual slot card.

I mean seriously, someone tell me they actually LIKE the size of that thing.

Imagine some monster GTX580x2 design... 4 slot, maybe 5 slot design? LOL crazy.

Lol triple slot.

I would go water at the point I am considering a card that would be THAT expensive. (And I would be getting at least 3 or 4 of those things anyway if I have that much dough to throw around :p )

Triple slot gtx 460's are made, why not for the fastest gpu in the world!
Like the mean looking back plate.
For some m/b configurations 2 of these would work nice, taking advantage of available m/b space.
Like my m/b this would work well.

My GTX460 happens to have a triple slot cooler on it. The Galaxy stock fan is noisy, replaced it with a Gelid Icy Vision. Not many after market coolers out there for the 460, pretty much all overkill.

Not sure why everyone hates the 3 slot cooler. I think it's fantastic. If you really don't have room just buy a reference and get a waterblock

That looks like it larger than 3 slots. maybe 3.25? Anyway, how much does it weigh? Looks scary tbh.

If the cooler would clear those SATA ports on the bottom, and the case had enough room I think three would fit (the cooler for the third one would just extend beyond the motherboard).

Of course with a GTX580 and a huge overclock, I can't imagine needing more than one or two anyway. :)

You can add all the GPUs you want. Take up all the slots you want. Hell, use your own power station to run the thing, and cause global warming all by yourself. It still doesn't change 2 very important things.

First, it still doesn't fix the fact that the isn't a single game out there that justifies the investment.

Second, it won't save you when I come after you in COD BO. :D
