Not bad, about $50 less after rebate when i bought my first one when they first came out. how do 2 of these crossfired compare to a 4850x2?

I would NOT buy these. That aftermarket cooler really, really sucks.
I built a rig with four, yes four, 9600GSOs in it to crunch F@H. Two EVGA single-slot with reference cooler, and two Asus "top" (overclocked) cards with that cooler in question. Well, the EVGA cards run at 71C (non-overclocked), 77C (superclocked), and the Asus cards ran at 84C (next to top card), and 96C (top card). The card on top that was running at 96C for two weeks died.

Doesn't hot air rise? Could that have accounted for some of the increase you experienced? Anyone else have experience with the cooler?
I see what you mean. It looks at first glance like many popular 2-slot heatsinks, which have a heat pipe cooler, but it does not seem to have a heatpipe. Looks like there is only an extruded aluminum heatsink under that fan. Too bad, 'cause this is a really strong card for the money.

You have the Asus 4850?
Because my Asus 9600GSO was 60C at idle, and when I only had two Asus 9600GSOs in the machine, spaced way out so that they had plenty of room between, and I got temps of 70C and 80C at load.
I'm curious what your load temps might look at after, say, running F@H GPU for five hours straight.
I just bought my Son a 4830 for XMas (SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 4830) for about $115 AMIR.
How do these two cards (4830 vs 4850)stack up against each other?
I had read that the faster memory and core speeds as well as the 120 more stream processing units were NOT worth the increase of about $40 in price.
Now that the price would only be a $15 difference if the rebates come through. Then add about $10 in return shipping costs and I am wondering if the performance gain would be worth a $25 increase in price (as well as the hassle of returning the 4830).
I realize that it is Christmas day, but if someone replies before my son opens the box about 8am EST, it would be greatly appreciated. If only this was available about a week ago when I ordered his parts. For $15 more, I probably would not have even asked....

What are the rest of the specs of the system, including monitor. What games does your son play?
Edit: Well, it doesnt look like you are replying, but check out the review below. It appears that at 1680x1050 (The standard res for ~22 inch monitor) the 4850 has around a 10% lead. You shouldnt worry about it unless your son has a larger monitor.

Right now he has a 19" 5:4 LCD (1280x1024). It is a Hanns-G from 2 XMas's ago when Woot had them for $100 after rebate. Of course, I had big problems with the rebate (not just me, the rebate company stopped paying out to a bunch of us). Luckily, Woot did the right thing and made good for the $100 that we didn't get. Mad props to Woot!
Anyway, the monitor is acting up. Depending how much money he gets from his relatives, we will be looking at new Monitors. At this point it could be up to a 1920 x 1200 24" Widescreen. It depends on how much cash he gets from relatives.
As for the rest of the system, my son is getting a PC upgrade for Xmas. He is getting a E7300 CPU, Asus PQ5 Mobo, 2x2GBs Corsair, and the 4830. We will most likely get him a new PSU if we get all of the rebates back.

u might want to go with 1680x res screen and a little oc'ing on the vid card... i got my college kid a 19in westy 1680 lcd to minimize space used, and it's very nice... he's got a 3850 and 3.4 core2 and can play anything (oc to the max in ccc)... some games struggle a bit in 1920x...
