Before I return this baby wanted to get some advice. My card is running at about 93-94 degrees C under full load in BF4. Every review I have seen is that the card should be around 70-80 degrees C.

Does anyone have experience with this card. Are you seeing the same temps? My case has good cooling btw

I had the same experience until I UNINSTALLED the Asus Overclocking utility. It sets vddc to 1250-1350 with that thing installed, and wouldn't OC for beans.

When I uninstall it vddc is around 1109 and I can actually OC them core and memory. It now mines at 79C load instead of 94C...

I only installed the asus gpu tweak app but havent touched any of the values. I will try that and see what happens. Any recommendations on what I can use just to monitor the temp?

Gave that a shot and no dice. In uber mode the gpu temp is still at 93-94c. Maybe a defective card\cooler...not sure

Try to confirm volts in afterburner or GPU-z or directly.

The card shouldn't run that hot, but i'd recommend doing a strict evaluation of airflow in your case.

I've got a 290x in a Home Theater PC and that's within a poor but manageable stand. The card runs hotter than i've seen in reviews, but in open air setting it runs in line with reviews and users.

Check the mounting of the cooler on your card. My 780 dc2 wasn't even touching the GPU, I had to screw the standoffs in about an eighth of an inch. Once I did and the cooler contacted the card, temps went from high 80's to low 60's

Is it a 290 or a 290x? There is NO Uber mode on the 290's.The BIOS switch is for UEFI (or what ever its called)or non, I use TechPower up GPU-Z to check the voltage.

This seems to be a common occurrence, other users in the mining thread have the same.. as did [H] with their sample. It's a dud, but one that is more likely to happen due to ASUS's choice to put a heatpipe cooler designed for GK110 that has 2 pipes barely functional on the smaller Hawaii GPU.

Add in variation in TIM application, and mounting, it would exacerbate the non-optimal cooler. Rather than wasting time to troubleshoot, just RMA it.

They all need to completely uninstall that PoS Asus OC tool and reboot. Like I said mine did the same thing. I couldn't OC the memory for mining till I removed it as well.

As soon as I removed it the voltage dropped to decent levels, and OCing it was a breeze for the memory. Its mining away, and playing BF4 great at 1000 core, 1500 memory. Core runs fine at 1050 but mining performance goes down. Getting 878 kh/s on mine now, when previously it would start throttling down to 650-700 kh/s.

I'm not sure why everyone hates the ASUS GPU Tweak utility. I can undervolt my R9 280x Direct CU II's, under/overclock them, set manual fan speeds or custom fan profiles and it has given me zero problems. I use it to setup my cards for mining and gaming, and it works great.

My first strategy would be to undervolt the card/make a custom fan profile or just set the fan to a static setting and see how it affects your temps.

Meh, doesn't matter to me, it runs great with out it and its one less piece of software I need running. It also seems to get confused with the 7850 I have mining in my rig as well. I know all my "problems" with heat and the lack of overclocking were resolved by removing it. I don't under stand why it would run at 1250 vddc with default settings when it clearly wasn't needed.

I can see it having a problem with different card models in the same computer, it might try to sync settings between them. I decided not to add a 270x because I didn't want to risk having the software not work.

I removed the fan shroud and everything looks secure. When I crank the fan speed up to 100% the temp will go down to around 89 which is still WAY above any of the benchmarks for temps I have seen on other sites.

I have very good airflow but just as a test I removed the side of my case and no change in temps. Also uninstalled GPU tweak and same issue. At this time I am just going to rma for another asus card and see if that one works out any better?

Thanks for the advice guys

So while I am waiting for my RMA I ahd a question about the VVDC which I assume is the memory voltage. If I lower it to 1109 as suggested by JBT will that decrease the performance FPS wise?

And if that fixes the temp issue I should be able to sue them for 1 million dollars for pain and suffering
