ASUS' "Q-Connector"

I typically build at least six desktop computers per year all using Asus boards. The one I'm putting together right now did not have the q- connector in the box to connect the front panel to the motherboard. Fortunately, I think, I had a q- connector in my closet and am trying to use it... but the computer won't start up at all- no signs of power other than the green LED on the board. Does anybody know if all of these q-connectors the same? I am at a loss to figure out why computer won't start.P8 67 pro motherboard is what I am using, along with i5-2400 processor.

the case has a THERMALTAKE 600W PSU

Thanks for any suggestions.

I never had problems using them between 775, 1156 and 1366 mobos. Pinouts are the same.

Maybe asus changed the pin layout on that mb and to avoid problems they leave out the quick connectors.
So why not remove the case wires and quick connectors and just jump out the two start pins to find out if its a switch, wire or pin location problem.
Always run off any new mb out of the case to avoid problems.

thank you that is what I thought. That being the case, there is no reason why the setup should not work. I just pulled the board back out of the case, applied ATX power and the 24 pin connector, but still no juice. If this board is bad, it will be the first one I have had to RMA in years.

At this point though, I have removed all other possibilities that I can think of. I manually have jumped across the pins for the power switch connector, and still it will not fire up even though the green LED on the main board shows we have power

The motherboard is on a wooden desk right now, so I know for a fact is that shorting against anything in the case.

Any other suggestions? All greatly appreciated- thank you.

it always amazes me when something stops me like this in doing a computer, as I have been building them since 1994. Occasionally though, I do still get bad parts like anybody else!

You don't even need the Q connector - it's there to make life easier, that's it.

try it without the Q-connector. If it doesn't even POST, and the PSU and RAM are good, your board is bad. RMA it - it's quick and painless.

My last couple of ASUS RMA's went incredibly smoothly. They consisted of me calling their RMA hotline at 510-739-3777 (it's faster than doing it online), telling them, essentially "I have a bad board, this is the hardware and settings I tried with it."

They then sent me an RMA number by email within a few days; I shipped the board to them and the next week I got a fresh board from RMA.

Does the Q Connector match the pinout on the motherboard? Either it does (and it should work) or it doesn't.
