last night i flashed to the 1008-001 bios on my a8n-sli dlx, when i got back into windows, asus probe decided it did not want to work anymore. i unistalled it and now i cant install it, it loads up, askes me where i want the files to go then says it is checking my config then done. add/remove progs says it is there but 0mb in size, i unistall and try again, nothing. ai-booster still works fine, i flashed back and cleared the cmos to 1007 final. mbm5 installs fine. is probe just buggered, i know at one point it asked if i wanted to delete a file that others may be using or something and i said yes. do i need to wipe the hdd and start over? should i unistall ai-booster and then try, maybe they are connected somehow? any help would be great, thanks.

It's not worth a reinstall just to get the ASUS Probe to work, IMO.

Just download and install Everest instead -- it's quite good, has fan monitors, HD temp sensors, etc, and

it'll work fine with newer BIOS, unlike the ASUS Probe.

The newer BIOS allows the mobo to read all 4GB of RAMs by default, and somehow, the current ASUS Probe doesn't like

this change, even if you change this setting in the newer BIOS.

thanks a lot, i am gonna flash back to 1007-004 and see maybe if that helps ( i know that is technically 1007 final, but who knows, probe worked fine with it)

well i flashed back and no go, it still probe starts up install, then installs apparently, and then nothing, i go to add/remove programs and it says it is there but has a size of 0.00mb. i am not sure what to do, ai-booster still works and everest and others are fine. probe just wont install. well any other suggestions are welcome. maybe i will wipe and reinstall xp, but would rather not.

I won't worry too much, just use Everest to monitor voltage, fan speed, hd temps, etc, and use the ai booster to monitor CPU and case temps.

I still don't think it's worth reinstalling WinXP just to get ASUS Probe to work -- the newer version of the ASUS Probe will probably solve this issue when it becomes available.

that program gets really screwed up when you flash the bios. i had to uninstall it, and when i tried to install it again, it said "no asus mb detected" i just waited a while, restarted, and 4 hours later, it suddenly started to work.

With the A8N-SLI, once you flash the current BIOS (just as Regulator07 and I did), the ASUS Probe won't reinstall once you uninstall it.

what the hell is wrong with this program, that is really dissappointing that an asus program wont work with an asus board.

no prob Promethply

i just contacted asus by phone and the tech there gave me some bogus answer about there being a clash with the software and the bios. he pretty much had no idea what was going on unfortunetely and just told me to look for a new probe if and when it comes out. i guess asus is working on the 64 bit windows and that is where the concentration is. anyway, i hope someone can figure this out, it is really annoying that we cant talk directly with people who really know the board and bios.

any suggestions to fix this problem welcome. thanks

Awesome, thank you!

edit: CMB, is it safe to use the /cc (clear cmos) command, or should i just clear the cmos manually, removing jumper and battery?

Yes its' safe to use the /cc if that's what you want to do. It just sets the bios back to default settings after a flash, which is the same as loading bios setup defaults in the bios exit menu. The jumper is really only necessary when you can't get into the bios to load defaults and your bios is hung.

great, thanks a lot, and great find on this fix, this was an annoying problem and am dissapointed slightly that asus did not figure it out earlier, but i guess that is what happenes when you buy products not manufactured for the typical surf the web, dell customer. great work though!
