I can't find any reviews on the regular P9X79 to compare with the GB UP4. Going by reviews for the UP4 It would not really be my 1st choice, but someone might be able to help with choosing one.

I will be moving my current rig over to X79 with a 4820K CPU.

Do you have the need to upgrade NOW? Haswell-E isn't really that far. And depending on what you use your current machine for, it may not even be worth it. In your shoes, I would simply wait.

I don't know what the reasoning is. But I know I bought a socket 1150 Asrock Fatality H87 Performance motherboard with the intention of buying a quad core CPU later. However, with a i7-4770K, I'd be tempted to wait until Haswell-E, DDR4 RAM.

Probably fall sometime.

When I upgraded to my 4930k last month, I had it down to the P9X79LE and the UP4 board as well. I ended up going with the Asus, and I could not be happier, even if it is the lowest end P9X79 board they offer. Overclocks well, and I have had no trouble with it. I did not feel the need to wait, since I wanted a new machine now. I think you will like the Asus board if you go that route.

I'd really rather not wait. It takes ages for stuff like the DDR4 ram to actually be available here. I think I'm going to go with the Asus. The seem to have better software.

Pointless. Poor 892 codec, not enough native SATA 6, all added in controllers and ha! only 4 USB 3 ports. Your Z87 board murders it in terms of features and slots. You want to move backwards to an obsolete chipset for 2 extra cores? Er . . . ?

If you absolutely must move to x79 and I'm really not sure why, the ASUS X79 Deluxe is the only board I could see getting. It came out with the launch of Ivy-E so its not 2+ years old like the other options.
