Is it just me or is the motherboard not capable of changing the cpu fan speed? Using either the bios options or the software, the fans always spin at full speed. They are noctua 3-pin fans on the DH14. The other case fans (which are also 3-pin) can be controlled just fine.

Even my Z77 Deluxe can;t. The best is to do Turbo so full speed is better than not being full speed when required, imo.

However, my CPU cooler H100 is the only audible thing in my PC even under load or even when idle.

off topic a bit...

but did either of you who have an asus z77 board have to do anything to get dual channel memory working?

i have 2 4gb sticks, which are officially supported according to their list, and when in the dual channel mode it can't even post and the mem led stays on. this is when putting them in the recommended blue slots.

it only works when i put the two on the two left slots side by side.

just wondering if there is something obvious i just did not do or if i have a bad mobo. was planning on exchanging it tomorrow or saturday.

i have a z77-v lx btw.

I know on my Asus P9X79 Pro the cpu fan speeds change based on temp. Tho I am using 4 pin fans that I bought seperately and replaced the ones on my cooler with.

I pulled up the Asus P8Z77-v pro manual on the asus website. In chapter 3 it indicates you should be able to change the cpu fan speed... but only if you have QFan enabled. It then lists a few settings you can choose from and what the results should be.

It should be on pages 3-29 and maybe 3-30. You probably already knew this.. I was trying to be helpful and likely failing. Next week I'll have an Asus Z77 board to work with and get some hands on. Always liked them for their fan controls more than anything.

*edited* to remove an error and add the manual pages.

This is my problem. The Qfan stuff does nothing for the CPU fan, whether I set it to turbo, normal, manual, or even off, the fan spins at a constant speed. It works for the chasis fans.

In my experience, not all 4-pin plugs allow for the control of 3-pin fans.

Deleted post because I found this on overclock.net...

Posted by a user named grambo:

I asked on the Asus forum and was told that the Z77-V Pro is the same as the Sabertooth:

4 chasis fan headers can control either 3pin or 4pin (voltage or PWM)
2 CPU fan headers can only control via PWM, cannot control 3pin
