I think I have finally narrowed down my choice for motherboard for my new build from the two in my title.

I figure I'll get a feature rich board that should last me many years. I did the compare feature on ASUS's website, but I can't decide which would be the better choice. I plan on doing everything with this computer (at some point in time).

Any opinions?

I went through the features in detail, and aside from small differences, the boards are amost the same feature wise. I'd go by price at this point.

Asus Maximus V Formula unless you need the PCIe bridge chip(s)

Also do remember the M5E is E-ATX and that might affect your case selection.

I'm going to use a Corsair Obsidian 800D. I got one for $200 with a TigerDirect sale and Bing offer in late 2010. :) Need to order the SATA III and USB 3.0 upgrades.

I want a board that has the PLX chip so more PCI-E bandwidth will be available. I almost went with X79, but wanted something that used less power and generated less heat.

abekl, what were the small differences that you noticed? I saw that the Extreme has PS/2, Premium doesn't. Premium uses Marvell 9230 for extra 6 Gb/s ports, Extreme uses Asmedia (no RAID). Premium does dual x16, Extreme x16 or dual x8. Premium has dual Intel NICs, Extreme single Intel NIC. The Premium can use Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and mSATA all at the same time. Extreme can use Wi-Fi and Bluetooth or mSATA at one time (AFAIK, might be wrong). I don't really care about mSATA, so no biggie. If ASUS sold the Premium WITHOUT a mSATA SSD pre-installed for $40-50 cheaper, I'd probably grab one.

I don't know how Digi+ II that the Extreme has differs from Digi+ for the Premium. Maybe similar to Gigabytes new Ultra Durable 5?

Guess I'll wait for a few reviews before making a decision.
