Asus P8Z77-V Front USB 3.0 Ports -- Not Powered?

On my old AsRock board, which had a front USB 3 connector (AsRock X58 Extreme6), I was able to connect my iPad to the front panel USB 3.0 port (which connected to the front USB 3.0 connector on the MoBo), and the USB 3.0 ports actually powered the iPad. However, on my new Asus P8Z77-V Deluxe MoBo, I am using the same front USB 3.0 connector that I used with the AsRock, and the USB 3.0 front port is plugged into the Asus USB 3.0 front port connection on the MoBo, but when I plug my iPad into the front USB 3.0 port (either one), I get an error message that a power surge occurred on the USB hub, and I should disconnect the device and reset the USB port.

Am I not able to plug the iPad into the USB 3.0 ports when the front plate connector is plugged into the Asus MoBo? Is the Asus connector not powered like the AsRock? Really seems odd for a more advanced board to seemingly provide less functionality in this respect. Or do I just need a new USB 3.0 front header (and, if so, model number, please)?

My P8Z77-V-LK powers the front USB 3.0 ports just fine. I have charged my phone, Nexus 7, and my Logitech G510 requires a powered usb for the heaphone amp.

Do you have the power turned off in bios? Might check.

Have you tried any other powered devices?

There are 2 ea USB 3.0 ports for front and rear
4 Z77 and 4 ASM for my mobo
Only ASM charges ("E" ports)
Have to load drivers USAP FOR ALL
The Deluxe is a bit dif from mine
(all the dif versions have dif layout)
You only have one dual port Intel in mid board
All 4 ASM and 2 more Z77 in rear
You gotta look at the manual and study it
All the ports are blue!!!
Its rocket science you know.

If only the ASM connectors charge, and I'm connected to an Intel port for the front USB 3 ports, that would explain why my iPad isn't charging when plugged into the front USB 3 ports. In response to the first reply, my iPhone seems to charge when plugged into the USB 3 ports. Only the iPad causes a "surge" with regard to them. It's not a big deal, as the iPad isn't currently USB 3.0 anyway, and I don't have a problem with charging when plugged into the front USB 2 ports. I was more curious than anything as to why the iPad charged on the AsRock MB, but not the Asus.

As an aside, any idea if "powered" front USB 3 headers exist, which plug into the PSU?
