I bought a new intel z77 motherboard and i7 3770k and currently have an asus p8z68 v pro(not gen 3) with an i5 2500k.
I switch out my z68 with my new z77 mobo but keep the same cpu(i5 2500k) with it.
In turn, I put my new i7 3770k in the z68 motherboard.
The z68 with i7 3770k is for a friend while the new z77 mobo is for me.
The z77 mobo with the i5 2500k works out great not problems. However the z68 motherboard with the new i7 3770k won't even post to bios. Or at least I'm not sure if it is or isn't. When I turn pc on, fans start up, everything is going fine but no video signal on the screen at all. I take out the HD 6870 I had in there and connect the hdmi cable straight to the onboard port. Still no signal. I figure maybe the ram my friend got is bad so I take those out and put the ram from my PC in there. I try every single slot and nothing works.
Then I figure maybe its because there is no OS installed, so I switched hard drives with mine. Still no dice.
So now I'm thinking maybe the i7 3770k isn't compatible with the asus p8z68 v pro mobo.
Right now Im in the process of clearing the CMOS, but just wanted some opinions. Would I have to place the old i5 2500k back into the z68 mobo and do a bios update? Or should the mobo already be compatible with ivy bridge because that is what I was led to believe and that is what the website for the mobo says.
