Asus P8P67 pro onboard sound question

Just wanted to know how the onboard sound is on thie mobo? Is it still worth getting an add-in soundcard like the XFi?

I don't play games but do listen to music. I have Klipsch Promedia speakers right now.

Guidance would be appreciated.

I listen to music and watch movies with my P8P67 Pro and am very satisfied .. I have 2.1 speakers . The sound control panel and equalizer provide a lot of flexibility ..

There are those, who say that it is possible to hear a difference between "proper" and "cheap", once one has listened both long enough. That you get used to whatever you are listening (explains things about wifes, I presume).

I have no difficulty hearing the difference between the onboard audio on my P8P67 Deluxe and my X-Fi. The onboard is ok. It is just that whole aspects of the sound spectrum is gone or sound flat compared to the X-Fi. If you cant afford an addon card, you will do ok with the onboard. Especially if you dont have very good speakers to begin with. If you can afford it and have good speakers, then it certainly is worth it. I use the X-Fi as playback device and the onboard for recording, it is good enough for that.

With previous motherboards (my latest one was an Asus P6T Deluxe V2 x58 chipset) I could tell the difference between the quality of the onboard vs the XFi. Just don't know if I should sell it or use it again.

I currently have Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 speakers now. Not sure if these are considered 'low-end'.

Just plug it in, and do comparison. If you already have the card, why the question? IMHO not worth the trouble to try to sell a soundcard these days. Those who care about sound enough to want one, they buy a new one. That is my experience at least.

I haven't own a Creative card since the SB Live! value PCI I got a decade ago. That X-Fi Titanium card is the first Creative I would consider buying since it supports Dolby Digital Live and DTS standards, something Creative ignored along with standard compliant SPDIF and TOSLINK outputs.

However, the onboard audio of your P6T Deluxe V2 is an Analog Devices AD2000B, which was the last and best chipset made by them. That's pretty much as good as onboard audio is going to get.
