ASUS P8P67 PRO eSATA problem.

Ref.: Win 7 PRO 64 bit OS. (New build) / Single hard drive / BIOS set to AHCI.

I'm having a problem with "Hot / Swap" eSATA devices as follows.

The MOBO has two 3X eSATA "direct input" connectors, JMicron JMB36X,(Rear Panel Connectors); one powered-- The other not.

Only the non powered one is hot swappable.

The other four 3X eSATA Connectors (SATA3G-3, _4, _5, & _6 (INTEL SATA-AHCI Controller), are stated to be set to AHCI by default; yet they are not functioning as such:

In order to use these connectors for an external eSATA hard drive, the Drive must be connected, and turned ON prior to boot, and has to be turned off, & re-boot to "remove" it from "the system.

That's not "hot swappable"!

The INTEL SATA/AHCI Controller appears to have the latest driver.

On my P8P67 PRO I had this problem until I installed the JMicron RAID driver even though I am not using RAID ..

I would avoid letting the ASUS CD install stuff automatically.

Open the Asus CD in Explorer .. Go to the following folder :

Drivers\Raid\JMB\362\Install\

Run the setup.exe, and I believe this will take care of your eSATA issues..

Do you have a screen shot of your device manager ?
Do you show " Disk Controllers " or " Storage Controllers " ?

There is also a " Hot Swap " option in the BIOS for each of the SATA ports.... Do you have them enabled ?

I was dealing with the exact same issue yesterday. Actually lost data for not properly ejecting the hard drive and frustrated me until I resolved the problem. Downloading the latest drivers for JMB (http://www.jmicron.com/Driver.htm) properly shows the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon in the notification bar.

Storage Controllers: "hosts" Marvel, & JBMicron Controllers.

IDE ATA/ATAPI Controller "Hosts" the Intel Connectors.
