Hi,

Some quick questions about Sandy Bridge board and the B3 revision.

As I read, the bug was confirmed by intel, and a new chipset revision B3 is out now.

1# Is a B3 revision a returned-and-corrected mobo? Or they are expected to be brand new mobos?

2# Looking into an Asus P8P67 EVO, it has 4 Sata-II ports (intel), 2 Sata-III ports (intel) and 2 Sata-III ports (marvell). The bug was related to the Sata-II ports? I thought it was related with the new Sata-III ports but from what I've read, it seems to be Sata-II related problem. Correct? If so, not using them would totally avoid the problem correct?

Some extra opinion: Looking into 8Gb (2x4Gb) 1600MHz CL9 kits ...

Corsair is more marketted toward a Sandy Bridge system, although the GSkill is listed in the Qualified Vendors List of Asus, not being specifically branded toward a SB system (for that GKill launched RipjawX series, which I'm not able to find at the local stores with the same spec).

Which would be the best choice?

Thanks.

B3s are new boards, haven't seen anything credible to dispute this. It was a SATA II problem, it is now corrected on B3 boards. Nothing to avoid. Either of the sets of ram will work. Most important thing is 1.5v.

Thanks for the answers.

I found the following kit that I'll mount for a week:

[ Ripjaws-X ] F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL
http://www.gskill.com/products.php?index=355
9-9-9-24-2N
87€

They will probably be a temporary solution, because in the local shop they will get me:

[ Ripjaws-X ] F3-12800CL8D-8GBXM
http://www.gskill.com/products.php?index=356
8-8-8-24-2N
97€

Since the CL8 was out of stock, and since it's about 10€ more over the CL9, they got me the CL8 and next week I'll replace with the quickest ones.

Glad the B3 as no problems, as I'm hopping to hold to this build for many years.

Thanks

Can't say that B3 is totally without problems, there are some sleep issues for some but it is strange how many with problems have the same exact problems with replacement boards. Can't help but think it is due to something else in their system or something they are doing. And they are very vocal. Timings make some difference on ram but it only manifests in benching. Real world, can't tell any difference. If you get problem free memory, stick with it.
