Asus P8P67 DOES NOT recognize second Western Digital Passport USB 3.0 Drive

Help!

I have 2 USB 3.0 Western Digital Passport SE drives, and when I have one
connected to the machine, it works fine.

When I plug in the second one, it is not recognized on the machine in the USB 3.0
port.

When I move the second one to a USB 2.0 connector, it tells me it would work faster
on a USB 3.0 port, but the drive does NOT show up on the system to be used.

When I swap the drives, the same thing happens. Only the first drive is recognized.

System :

i5 2500K
8 Gigs Ram
Asus P8P67

The system is NOT overclocked.

Thanks!

Did you check to make sure you didn't have a drive letter conflict? Check to see if it exists in the control panel computer management applet. It may be trying to use a drive letter that is already in use (either local or network share) and if that is true then it won't show up.

No Drive letters are reserved.

As I said, it doesn't even show up as the second on the USB 3.0 port,
and on the USB 2.0 port, it sees it (tells me it will run better on a 3.0 port)
but it is not available in the My Computer window.

Have you checked in Computer Management or Device Manager to see if it is recognized regardless of drive letter being assigned?

When I get home I will re-install the chipset drivers (yes, they were installed before)

I will also check the Computer Manager. As I said, with one plugged in, it works fine.

Only when both are plugged in does the second one not register and become available.

I can reproduce each time with both drives in either the First or Second Spot.

I have also rebooted, changed cables, etc... No difference

This probably won't help diagnose much, and it's the one combo I didn't see you mention, but have you plugged them both into 2.0 only slots?

I have reinstalled the the latest Intel Drivers, as well as reflashed my bios to the latest 1204.

I have plugged them in both to USB 3.0 ports, and only the First drive connected is recognized.

The second drive shows under Devices as My Passport 0730, but has no Drive association

I have alos tried one in a USB 3 and the other in a USB 2 port, and the same thing happens.

I have also plugged both into a USB 2 port, and have the same outcome.

So, I cannot connect 2 Wetsern Digital Passport SE Drives to the same machine.

Anyone else have any other things I may have missed?

This honestly makes this Board a P.O.S. and can anyone else connect 2 Western Digital Passports to their P67 board?

Can anyone test the same thing on their end? How the hell does something make it to
market that is THIS broken? Yes, I know about the SATA problem, but are there further problems that no one has tested for?

Any help is GREATLY appreciated!

Can Anad help out here and test the P8P67 board with (2) Western Digital SE drives and see if they work?

Thanks!

I get the message "The Disk is Offline because it has a signature collision with another disk that is online"

This is in Computer Management

Why Can't I connect 2 USB external drives to a P67 board?

my system is pretty much the same as yours: 2500k, p8p67, 8gb ram. but i dun have a WD passports to test with. i only have a 16gb usb 3.0 flash drive. it works perfectly on both of the usb 3.0 ports. so maybe it's just your mobo that has a defective port?

asus is shipping out replacement boards already. you are gona have the mobo replaced anyway, right? hopefully there won't be any more problem once you have your new board😉

Fixed

You have to manually Bring it online to see it.

As I am plugging in an External Drive, it is a Garabge thing to happen

Found this discussion with a Google search of your error message (search with quotes around it for exact matches). There seemed to be workable solutions in that discussion. I'll quote the easiest one here:

My suggestion would be to go back into Disk Management, right click the smaller box next to the second external drive, and see if you can use the option to turn the drive to 'Online' mode.

Each volume has its own unique identifier, called a signature. Though very rare, you can run into a situation (which mostly happens after cloning data to another drive) where both drives have the same signature.

If it will not allow you to switch the drive to 'Online' mode, then take the external drive to another computer, format the volume completely, and then take it back and it should work.

Note that it is a Windows issue and has nothing to do with your motherboard or your disks themselves.

Comp management disk management , do you see the drive in there ? If not there is not much you can do but get the B3 stepping mobo and hope same problem doesnt happen.
