i have a intel i5 2500k system. i am planing to upgrade to another motherboard. the asus p8b ws with the intel c206 chipset. i want to use the ecc memory. my question is, the motherboard will support ecc meemory but the cpu doesnt not. will it be useless since the cpu doesnt support it, or do i have to go with a xeon processor. it is for my storage server.

The same thing that I just respounded to you on another website. The Intel® Core™ i5-2500K doesnt support ECC memory (memory controller is now on the processor) also the Asus P8B WS doesnt support the Intel Core i5-2500K. If you are really looking for support for ECC memory than look at the Intel Xeon E3-1240 but you wont have the ability to overclock with it.

Did you end up going with the P8B WS? How was your experience? I'm about to pick one up for a home storage server.

The board does support i5-2500K--since BIOS 0401--ccording to ASUS website.

Christian,

I would like to run Windows 7 64-bit, on a Xeon E3-1270,
installed in an ASUS ASUS P8B WS LGA 1155 Intel C206
ATX Intel Xeon E3 Server/Workstation Motherboard, with
unbuffered ECC DIMMS.

Will the motherboard provide ECC functionality in this setup?
