ASUS P7P55D-E - Asus utilities...

Just putting together the new system in my Siggy, got most all of the hardware installed (just ordered another HD, 2TB Spinpoint for Data) and in the next day or two I'll start wiring everything up, then load the OS. (W7 HP 64)

Looking through the manual Asus has all sorts of utilities on the disc, having not built a new PC in quite a few years, are they worth it? Some better better then others?

Thoughts?

Thanks!

I'd leave those utilities off for the time being. The only thing you'll want to load are the drivers (chipset, audio, and LAN). You can try the utilities out once you have your rig stable. I found that any tinkering with overclocking (TurboV) or undervolting (EPU-6) would lead to crashes.

On the other hand, when I tried running a game without installing the audio drivers, I'd get crashes, even though W7 had loaded default drivers, so definitely install those. Might want to grab them from the Asus support website to make sure you have the most recent (although chipset, audio, and LAN drivers don't change much, honestly).

Congrats on the new system...looks like you've been holding off a long time! And by the way, the Sammy 2TB is a sweet drive...hope you got the F4.

Thanks! I know I never used much of the utilities in the past either....good to know on the drivers...

Yes, I have waited a very long time! Have had to get my oldest sons premium laptops for graduation the last few years, and the old Abit based system has slowly been dying.

At work atm, not sure which Spinpoint but it was the one with the highest rating of all 2TB drives at Newegg, there is a $20 Promo Code atm, $97 shipped free (CA tax included) was something I could not pass!

This new build is going be such a drastic change from the old one, probably wont OC anytime soon...Ha Ha

That's the sweet F4 2TB you got. Good find. Have fun with the build.
