I am not whining/wining:hmm:, complaining, bitching or otherwise negative, but just commenting that the stellar OC I had with the previous BIOS 0402 does not work with the latest BIOS. I am talking about the settings that I wrote down and I am quite surprised at myself for having the presence of mind & willingness to bother to have written them down.
I was getting 4.41GHz OC (21 x 210) with a lot of screwing around. And that is with 12 GB RAM. Voltage really did not seem to make any difference ... well possibly, but I mentioned elsewhere that it was sort of like making love with boxing gloves on, you think that you are getting a response but are not absolutely certain about cause and effect. And I wonder why I am single.
I also have a friend that used to work in Intel server division & has been bugging the heck out of me that thru-put is all about memory speed. To my experience, RAM speed does show up, but it is not nearly as significant at RAW CPU speed ... memory speed be d@mned. Meaning drop RAM performance to what ever is necessary to boost CPU. I run number crunchers, FWIW.
I made the BIOS upgrade because I will be getting a hexa-core ASAP (rumor is March-ish). The ASUS Description for this BIOS update is "Support new CPUs. " And, I interpret as hexa-core so I wanted to become familiar with whatever comes along in the BIOS. As far as I can tell, there is nothing that the user sees.
I will be commenting back as I attempt the previous OC. I welcome *ANY* suggestions & comments however ludicrous or off topic .. hoping that there is someone else "out there" OC-ing this m/b with a i7 920.
