ASUS P6T7 WS Supercomputer SAS controller for SATA II

I'm trying to figure out how exactly to make the two SAS controller connections work with my SATA II HDD which I just bought. I turn on The Marvell SAS controller in the BIOS and the controller detects it but then reverts to the message that no storage devices driver has been found or no boot storage device has been found (which is strange really).

Does anyone have this motherboard that has been able to figured out how to make these SAS connections work as substitutes for traditional SATA II controller connections?

Thanks in advance

I have these boards but do not use the Marvell SAS host.
What are you trying to do specifically?

says the same thing on my P6T Deluxe.... but i have two 15KRPM 74GByte cheeta drives (SAS drives) setup as raid 0 on my main computer.
I get that message all the time... doesn't stop me

but I think you need to set up the boot order to have the SATA drive as the first boot device... it might be looking for a sas drive... but i think you also have to enable the SAS controller for SATA drives also.. i think it defaults to SAS drives if you don't... i look into it tomorrow when i get out off of work

sounds like he's trying to use the SATA drives on his SAS controller... I know with the P6T Deluxe, you can configure the SAS controller to use it with SATA drives.

Yes that's correct. I'm trying to get SAS controllers to work with my hard drives. If you guys can provide some instructions for the BIOS that I've got on my WS p6t7, I'll be very thankful.

Are you using a SAS drive or SATA drive?
I don't know if the board supports both without running out of BIOS address space. If you have SATA drives they should be on ICH10 not the Marvell. SAS controllers SHOULD work with SATA drives (not the other way around though!) but I'm not sure the onboard SAS is a real controller aside from host based RAID like its SATA counterpart. I have SAS drives but they're hitched to an Areca ARC1680ix-24.

I can only tell you what worked for me, I tried using the 2 marvell sata ports on my board while loading win 7 for the first time and it showed no drives. I switched to the other available ports and there they were.. I found out that for my board I needed to load the marvel drivers during the instalation process via disk or flash drive and poof there was the drives I was looking for...I did call the motherboard manufacturer to make sure I got the correct drivers from Marvel
Good Luck

Do a bios upgrade. There was a issue with Asus boards and the PCI-E x1 lane not working and such. A bios update was issued the problem solved. I suggest you do the same.

BTW you need a SAS disk for it to work. Your using your SATA drives. No way the mobo would reckonize it

ICH10R > Marvel SAS controller :X

But u need to enable it in bios, then they go though a very long bootup sequence.
Then if you want them to be boot, you need to go back into bios and set them as the primary boot hard disk.

But i'll tell ya right now, ICH10R is faster, and that marvel controller is crap unless ur going to put some Savios or 15k RPM drives on them.

LOL.. ^this...

The Marvell is indeed crap.. I have my 15k SAS drives in RAID0 on them so they're pretty quick... but I plan to get a RAID/SAS controller (PCI-E) soon and hopefully that'll be a great step up.

The only thing is, do they sell SATA 3.0 AND SAS combined on one PCI-E card?
