Hello ! I know that a lot of people wondering if the asus p6t se mobo will work with the xeon x5500 and x5660 series. I was wondering too but I couldn't find enough information if it really works.. So I decided to buy a cheap xeon x5560 for around 25 euro on ebay to test it..

the x5560 is similar to the i7 920 as both have 8mb cache 4 core 8 threads but the xeon has a bigger Qpi speed.

Asus says that the xeon will not fit the p6t se.

I flashed my bios to the latest version that asus provides "0908"
And finally the xeon x5560 works perfectly on the p6t se as it should overclocked in 4.1 Ghz.

so now i'm running an
asus p6t se
xeon x5560
12gb 3x4 kingston hyperX "KHX1600C9D3/4Gx"
6gb 3x2 corsair dominator "CM3X2G1600C8D"
Samsung ssd 840 series 120gb
radeon hd4850 512mb

I'm using this machine for graphic design, photoshop, after effects, premiere, illustrator.

I think tha a good upgrade will be a new vga.. like radeon R7 265 2gb 256bit
what do you think?

I'm also planning to buy a xeon x5600 series .. I think x5650 will be good enough and an extra 12gb set to replace the 6gb set so I can have the 24gb of memory that my motherboard supports.. does anyone knows if the motherboard could support 48gb of memory as the xeon supports more memmory?

please let me know your opinions.. I would like to keep with this setup for about 2-3 years more.. and I think it should be ok for the work I do .. I believe there is no reason yet to upgrade to 2011 chipset ..
