Asus P6T SE X58 - can I mix DDR3 modules?

Hi guys,
I have an Asus P6T SE (X58) mobo with 3 DDR3 modules of 2 GB each (Corsair Dominator CM3X2G1600C8D).

The Asus site says the mobo supports 6 x DIMM, Max. 24 GB, DDR3 2000(O.C.)*/1866(O.C.)*/1800(O.C.)*/1600(O.C.)/1333/1066 Non-ECC,Un-buffered Memory.

Because I now use virtual machines, I'd like to expand the RAM by adding other 3 DDR3 modules of 4 GB each (so I'd have 18 GB).

Will it work if the new modules don't have exactly the same specs of the older ones? What should I be careful about?

Thank you!

Yes, I had a set of 3x2gb DDR3-1066 mixed with 3x4gb DDR3-1333 and it worked fine, at 1066 speeds. Ideally it's best to match what you currently have, at least in speed and timings to be sure they operate well together.
